Are you wasting your time on YouTube?

One of the greatest sources of time waste nowadays is YouTube.
The way it works is, you have something to do, could be work, studies, assignment, your own project, but the you open YouTube to see what's new.
The bullshit you give yourself is, I will just spend fifteen minutes on Youtube.
Need to refresh my brain, I need a laugh.
Now you have all these subscriptions - these are people you love watching, your favorite content.
And if you happen to see that they have uploaded something new, you start watching it, but somehow it never stop there.
You don't stop at that one video and go back to work.
You get into this marathon of videos after videos, and end up spending hours.
Second thing, you focus gets destroyed.
Your brain is now busy processing all that information you have fed it.
It is not going to negate all the exciting new content you have watched, it's going to affect your mood.

Also, it's going to transform into a habit because everytime you laugh and enjoy something, dopamndo gets released in your brain, so your brain chemistry gets adjusted according to short bursts of happiness that you are getting from this videos.
After that happens, your brain automatically starts pushing you towards opening your phone and checking out more of these videos, because you get happy from watching them, and your brain takes it as a sign of good health, so it encourage such behaviour.
And that's how you become an addict.

Now let's really consider what we are talking about : from TV series to web series, to sketches, short films, reactions, songs, music videos, movies, games, podcasts, parodies, commentaries, football match, cricket matches, this match and that match, and then analysis of all these events, world events, news, commentary on news, daily shows, interviews, vlogs, home made videos, animal videos, instagram videos, celebrities posting videos, cooking shows, traveling shows, reality shows, anime, animated series, animated shorts, behind the scenes, controversies, live footage, entertainment news, gossip, celebrity coverage, conspiracy theories, videos on scrience, history, philosophy and all subjects, motivational videos, ted talks, vines, viral trends, viral challenges, try to laugh challenges......... and in the face of all this, your other option is work.

Have you ever counted how many hours do you spend on YouTube?
Whenever you open a video, they are benefitting from you.
But how are you benefitting from them?
I will admit, comedy is a great stress reliever but you're not using it as such; you're using it as a source of stress.
And the best part of is online content seems so innocent and casual in nature that you will never blame it for running your time.

How can you ever say a 4 minute video wasted your time?
After all, it's only 4 minutes.
That's the bullshit we give ourselves and get stuck in an endless parade of videos.

So whose fault is it, and what's the solution?
It's 100% your fault.
None of the youtubers or content creators can be blamed for you fucking up your time.
Please enter reality as soon as you can.
We are living in the age of digital content; they all want you, and they will say anything to have you.
But that's the limit of their interest, because, at the end of the day, they only care about their own interests and you are responsible for your own.

What are the solutions?
Whenever you find yourself watching videos, your favourite youtubers or any channel, ask yourself, am I really free right now?
Have I done everything I needed to regarding work, studies, and self betterment?
Am I cheating with myself, wasting time by watching these videos in the name of mood refreshment so I can actually avoid work?
Procrastination!
Because conscious in the moment.

Most of us have no synchronisation with time, we often find ourselves saying, " oh my god, it's 7 pm already? " or it's night?
Because you didn't know for how many hours you have been watching videos like a hypnotized chicken!
You don't even realise that the day is over, and you wasted every single moment on a chair glued to a screen.

Do you think when youtubers upload videos, they consider that maybe you are supposed to be working during that time?
No, they only care about the views.
Self interest.
It is you who has to make that distinction.
So constantly check yourself in your mind, every day, at any time, it's a great, just check yourself by asking if whatever you are doing is the best usage of your time!
Answering this question will help you become honest with yourself.

Here's a tip : watch anything you want to after you have done your daily important stuff.
Save it as a reward, you will be much more excited, happy, and interested to watch it in that case.
Manage your content.
Manage what you are watching.
What you need to do is : figure out the type of content you are watching the most, and ask yourself, is it giving you something back, are you learning something from it?
If answer is no, then you need to reduce it to 10% only.
I understand that you need your daily dose of entertainment, so why don't you only take the necessary amout, don't trun it into an addition.
There are great content, and there is great content for you.
Great content for you is what help you, educates you, makes you smarter, informed, better, enlightens you in whatever you are interested.

On YouTube, there are channels which can teach you a thousand things, and there are channels that can easily take a thousand hours away from you.
You will have to become smart enough to understand what is taking your time away and reduce it do to 10%.
When you do that, you are controlling your addiction.
The rest of the 90% content on your subscription list should be your interests, your work, creative ways to do your work, different subjects, world affairs so you become informed, music, motivational channels so you keep your motivation up.
The 90% content that you watch on YouTube should be for selfish reasons, not entertainment.

In the end, I will only say this: your focus takes hours of preparation to build, but it takes only a minute to be destroyed.
The fight of life isn't how to be motivation, because there are just too many enticing, tempting option that do not care about your life, but only to make you their slave.
